When John Rich's mill initially opened, the year was 1830 and Andrew Jackson was the President. Woolrich outfitted troops in the civil war, World War I and II and still outfits the military today. Although he initially sold fabrics, John soon realized he could not only make the finest, warmest, most durable wool; he could also create sturdy pieces of functional clothing. Woolrich's heritage can be seen in both the red and black buffalo check shirt and the red and black plaid wool hunting outfit, affectionately referred to as the "Pennsylvania Tuxedo."
After 175 years in business, Woolrich has proven it's capabilities in changing it's offerings to meet demand while holding true to their founding principles. Today, Woolrich is a worldwide business and is headed by Roswell Brayton - a sixth generation descendent of John Rich. As you will find with our newest venture, the Woolrich Elite Series, Woolrich's commitment to excellence continues in bringing you practical, comfortable, high endurance, high quality garments at an affordable price.
